Mai Tokiha transfers to Fuka Academy, where she discovers her powers a a HiME (Highly Advanced Materializing Equipment) and also learns that there are others at the school who posess HIME powers.
The HIME use their powers and guardian creatures called a "Child" to battle against evil creatures called "Orphans" However, when the real destiny of a HIME is revealed, Mai and the others have to fight to save the world and protect who is most important to them.
